Port Hope native and owner of Dyson Construction and Renovation, Steve Dyson, is a multi-skilled carpenter and general contractor. For almost 15 years, Steve worked alongside a reputable custom home builder in Northumberland County, gaining knowledge and experience along the way before deciding to advance his career as an entrepreneur.

In 2019, with his business savvy wife Trina, they incorporated and rebranded as the successful business it is today, Dyson Construction and Renovation. Though they operate in many areas bordering Northumberland County, Steve and Trina settled their business in the small town of Cobourg where Trina grew up.

Steve and Trina understand the importance of client relationships and know that’s the key to the success of their business. They quickly grew in the first year of operation, obtaining most of their clients through word-of-mouth, which kept them busy with repeat clients and referrals.

With more people calling Northumberland County home, the decision to scale the business, hire employees to remain available, and expand their services became their new goal. To achieve this, Steve and Trina built relationships with local trades, who shared the same mindset enabling them to collaborate with other local small businesses. They engaged BECN (Business and Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland) and worked with their mentorship developing the framework to support their goals. Soon the collaborations were in motion and they began bringing in their own family and tradespeople to offer a full-scope renovation service.

Hannah Dyson, a recent graduate, reached out to join the team and became the administrator helping Trina organize and create workflows that streamlined business processes making them more efficient. This led to hiring more family members, Ted Dyson, and Paddy Dyson. Together they share the passion of construction and providing optimal service to their customers.

Home additions, full basement and home renovations, decks, fences, garages, kitchens, bathrooms, and general contracting top their client requests. They also offer plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, tiling and roofing through sub-contracting services of Northumberland’s best tradespeople. While family values, tradition, and skilled labourers continue to advance in their careers under the direction and supervision of Stephen and his powerhouse admin and manager, the business continues to grow successfully.
